She began her accounting career as an internal auditor at the Prudential Insurance Company of America in Pennsylvania, worked in public accounting in Florida, was controller of federal schools in Puerto Rico as a civil servant in the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare and the US Department of Education, and then worked in Virginia government as financial accountant for Old Dominion University. In 1983 she left public service to found her own practice in Tidewater, which she later established in Fairfax County in 1985. She is personally licensed as a certified public accountant in Virginia and Florida, while the firm is licensed in Virginia, prepares tax returns for all states, and practices in federal authorities. She is one of the few CPAs who is a private investigator, with a special interest in tax forensics.
